The European Parliament makes laws affecting many aspects of life in Finland, such as employment rights, environmental standards, gender equality rules and financial regulation.
The SDP has two Members of the European Parliament (MEPs): Ms. Miapetra Kumpula-Natri and Mr. Eero Heinäluoma.
They work with European colleagues in the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group.
MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and a substitute of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO). MEP Kumpula-Natri is the vice-chair of the Delegation for relations with the United States and a substitute of the Delegation for relations with Japan. She is a standing rapporteur of the European Parliament´s INTA committee for WTO e-commerce negotiations and the chair and founder of the UN Generation Equality Friendship Group in the European Parliament. She was also a member of the European Parliament´s delegation to the Conference on the Future of Europe.
MEP Eero Heinäluoma is member of S&D Bureau and also group’s treasurer. He is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and the Committee on Budgets (BUDG). MEP Heinäluoma is also a member of the Subcommittee on Tax Matters and substitute of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE). MEP Heinäluoma is member of Delegation to the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly, Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and a substitute of Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee.
