SDP

This is what we are for in politics

The Finnish Social Democratic Party is in one of the three biggest parties in Finland. SDP is now in opposition and has 45 of the 200 seats in Parliament since the elections held on the 18th March, 2007.

The Party has been chaired by Ms Jutta Urpilainen since the Party Congress held in 2008.

The President of Finland, Mrs. Tarja Halonen was an active member of the SDP before she was elected first time in year 2000.

Finland was built over the decades through the lasting work of the Finnish Labour movement, which brought success for the people. Common right to vote and independence as well as universal education and day-care, among others, have been our objectives.

These ideas did face opposition at first in Finland too. But fortunately the people who stood for these thoughts found strong support in their peers.

We have always trusted in active cooperation on both national and worldwide level for a better future and prosperity for the people.

Today, there is still a lot that needs improving.
